'bringing people together to celebrate diversity in our community'

.

A huge thankyou to all who took part in this year's tournament.  It was a huge success and the proceeds from it will help Mary's Meals to provide over 65 children with a healthy and filling school meal every day for a year!

The Edinburgh Diversity Cup is an annual five-a-side football tournament which brings together teams representing Edinburgh's many faiths, cultures and backgrounds.

-

The team who proves victorious is awarded the David Gemmell Memorial Trophy, named in honour of the Rt Rev Mgr David Gemmell who sadly passed away in March 2008. David was a devoted Celtic fan and great supporter of the Diversity Cup.

-

In 2009, the Diversity Cup hosted teams representing mosques, temples, churches, the police, the City of Edinburgh Coucil, Edinburgh's LGBT community and many other organisations and communities.

-

The Diversity Cup takes place every June at World of Football (Edinburgh Corn Exchange) and is a fundraiser for the charity Mary's Meals.

Each of the sixteen teams who enter the tournament is asked to pay a £40 entrance fee which Mary's Meals will use to feed some of the world's hungriest children.

-

The Diversity Cup is organised by the Edinburgh Inter-Faith Association with the support of the Scottish Government and the City of Edinburgh Council.

-

If you would like to enter the Diversity Cup 2010, watch this space for more details. Application forms will be available as of January 2010.

-

This is a five-a-side tournament, so teams are requested to enter a squad of seven players (you will defintiely need substitutes!)

-

If you are an individual player who would like to enter, you can submit an individual application form and you will be assigned a team the week before the tournament takes place. Individual entry costs £5.
